Where is AI worth it in a small or mid-sized business?
An AI strategy answers it in writing: which task gets AI first, what is bought, built or left manual, and the signal that would reopen each choice.
WHAT THIS TOPIC COVERS
The AI decisions a small company faces first.
They usually arrive as a vendor offer or a request for an AI plan, before anyone has named the task. The answers below take them in the order they are usually settled: the first use case, the vendor, readiness, and whether what was bought actually works.
- Data checked first when it lives in exports and spreadsheets nobody has verified
- Tasks that stay manual kept on the list, with the reason
QUESTIONS THIS PAGE ANSWERS
AI strategy questions, answered briefly.
Which AI use case should come first?
A task the team repeats every week, whose inputs already sit in your own systems and where a wrong answer is cheap to catch before it reaches a customer.
How should AI vendors be compared?
Describe the task in plain terms first, then test each option on a sample of your own data rather than on the vendor's demo. Compare the total cost, including setup, review time and the effort of leaving, along with the licence price.
What does AI readiness mean?
It means the task is defined, the data it needs is available and reasonably clean, and someone on the team has time to review what the AI produces. Checking those three before the build is cheaper than finding a gap after it.
How can you tell working AI from an expensive demo?
Check whether it finishes the routine steps itself and leaves a person only a quick decision to approve, correct or reject. If its output still has to be interpreted and carried out by hand, it is a demo, however good it looks.

Bring one AI decision to an hourly session.
Tell us the task, the tools you use today and when the decision has to be taken; we confirm the hours it needs and what to send beforehand. If the answer is a build, it is quoted separately on the monthly hours it saves.
